In addition, we give our type specimens special treatment. Through a generous grant of studio and professional time, Alectron Dorfman of Premiere Digital Catalogues has photographed our collection of type specimens using a Phase I digital camera back attached to a 4X5 body in his professional studio. The resulting files are quite large (144 Mb) but their resolution is so high that they can be examined at more than 10X magnification without loss of detail. At this time the Cycads are complete and the Palms are nearly finished (although not all are online yet). CD's containing up to four raw tiff files or several high resolution jpegs can be mailed to qualified institutions for study by researchers.
Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden retains all copyright to the images except by special arrangement in writing.
For more information contact Dr. Lauren Raz, Curator of the Herbarium.
These allow zooming and other manipulations.
They also allow quite high magnifications.
