Classification based on type of perrenial structure.
bulb | A short, erect, underground stem surrounded by fleshy leaves. | ![]() |
caudex | A short, thick, vertical or branched perennial stem usually subterranean, or at ground level. | ![]() |
cladophyll | A flattened main stem resembling a leaf. | ![]() |
corm | The enlarged, solid, fleshy base of a stem with scales; an upright underground storage stem. | ![]() |
culm | Flowering and fruiting stems of grasses and sedges. | |
pseudoscape | A false scape where not all of the leaves are truly basal in origin, though they may appear to be so superficially. A true scape is a leafless peduncle arising from ground level, usually from a basal rosette in acaulescent plants. | ![]() |

tuber | A thick storage stem, usually not upright. | ![]() |
